Hi there,

On Sunday, I took the road hitchiking from Stockholm to Goteborg. Something like 500 kilometers. At the beginning, it was very hard: I first spent hallf an hour at a gas station near Liljeholmen, without any success. Then I walked a few hundreds meters back, and nobody stopped to pick me up for 1h30!!! Well, I was really wondering about the possibility of hitchhiking in Sweden...

So after 2 hours (I began early in the morning), I was still at my starting point. So I decided to walk on the side of the highway to reach the next exit. 30min. There I was a last picked up by a cool australian guy, Mike, guitar player himself. Unfortunately only for a short ride (15km!). Then I had to walk again to find a good spot, and after 5min, I was lucky to get a 2h30 ride, thanks to a nice couple from Denmark, Heinrick & Martha and was at Jonkoping at 16.00. And the last (and big) ride of the day was offered to me by a wonderful swedish woman, Suzanne. She dropped me in a nice nature place, 40 kilometers before Goteborg. Great, isn't it?

Suzanne, a former hitch-hiker and round the world traveller.

Alone in a small forest, only 2km from the highway!

Curious cows in the early morning

Andreas,  a amazing cool guy living in the woods! Thanks buddy!

I slept like a baby, after a small firecamp of course. In the morning, I walked back to the highway,  and a swedish guy, Andreas, picked me up after only 5 min waiting! He even offered me a coffee at his office, in the fire department  headquarters of Goteborg. What a nice guy!!!

So everything is allright here! The kindness on earth has not completely disappeared!

Hellooooooo!!!

I have promised you some pictures of Gamla Stan, the old city of Stockholm... So here we go!

Old cobbled streets are everywhere in Gamla Stan

The postman at work at Brända tomten square

Cars are forbidden in Gamla Stan, that's great! Go biking!

What are you looking at, old man?

At Stortorget square, where more than 500 nobles were beheaded in 1512 by Chistian II, king of Denmark! Bloody!

That was a nice walk, even while carrying my backpack, my little bag and the guitar. I got used to it now. I'm like a turtle with a shell. Oh by the way, I made a mistake in the last article (some coins were still in my guitar case) : so I earned in only 2 hours 161 swedish Kr (17€): 8,50€ per hour! Not bad for a beginner, is it? I'm very happy about that.

The amazing public library of Stockholm (perfect place for free wireless connection)

Then after this walk "back in time & history", I went to the CS meeting I told you about. There were not 20, but 50 CouchSurfing members!!! I talked with some french, swedish, canadian and german people and of course met my CS hosts there. Then they offered me the ride in their car to their flat. YES!

WOW!!! After that I had an extra-positive CS experience!!! Hakan, Ulrika and Aurora (the cutest baby ever!) were so friendly and caring, so available and helpful, so great hosts that it´s difficult for me to find the right words... They prepared a delicious breakfast, took me to a wonderful national park (Tyresta), gave me the opportunity to taste so many swedish things (pucko, smoked cheese, beers, wine, aquavit and a lot of different sweet things). Hakan even woke up early on sunday morning (!) to offer me a ride in his car, so that I could start my hitch-hiking trip to Goteborg in the best possible way. Well, I´m so grateful for their kindness and friendship, it was definitely my best surfing experience so far. They are a lovely family, they shouldn't change a single thing, & I really hope to see them again later with Aurora grown up! There´s definitely a place in my heart for them now...

The all of us at breakfast time, Aurora looking at me: I think she was fond of my (funny?) face...

Entering Tyresta national Park...

Little river through the enchanted forests...

We picked a lot of mushrooms (Hakan knows a lot about them), and back at home I cooked a risotto with them! No, of course we didn't pick those "amanite tue-mouches"!!! (This picture is dedicated to Danielle: you can copy and paste it for your autumn computer picture)

Tyresta national park wonders...

The "happy CH'TI!", a very rare and strange specimen of the Tyresta nature reserve...

Swedish spirit

You can make great pictures with a good camera (LUMIX DMC TZ5)

Ok that's all folks for now! The next article will be about my hitch-hiking trip from Stockholm to Göteborg... (I already made it , and in only one day!!! Youhou!). See you later! Kisses from Göteborg!

Hello, or good afternoon,

I' m currently in Stockholm, enjoying the sun in this beautiful city. What about you?

This morning, I came back  from Grinda Island with a little ferry (it's like a bus here for those who live in one of the 24000 islands of the Stockholm Archipel). Then I walked through the old city cobbled streets of Gamla Stan. I took some pictures of course but didn't have time to upload them... It will be for later... To earn a little money, I also played guitar in a tourist street: 150 Kr (15-20 €) in 2 hours! Great!

So... Grinda Island... well it was just a little paradise for me: desert beaches, rocks and hills, forests, wild animals... I stayed there 2 nights, hiking from the early morning until the sunset. I cooked sausages on a firecamp, played guitar, & had of course some moments of rest in amazing nature & peaceful places. I met 2 other humans during my "into the wild" trip!!! The island has some tourist houses or camping areas, but nobody was there. I used the restrooms and even took a hot shower for free! But I put my tent twice in secret places. Only me, the waves and my friends who eat nuts... Awesome

OK it's time for me to go, I'm gonna meet my hosts (for 2 nights in Stockholm) : Hakan & Ulrika. The meeting point is a pub, ans it's a couchsurfing meeting of course (!), with 20 CS members from different countries. See you later, and enjoy the pictures below...

Crowded beach in summer = desert beach in september...

Let's go & discover Grinda Island!

I'm neither tired nor drunk, I swear...

How to get lost on Grida Island? (without a map)

Wonderful scenery: on Grinda, each step desserve a new picture...

The nature gave me some sweet gifts, like this magic encounter...

I was taking a nap, and this lovely family came to visit me!

Bye bye! Kisses from Grinda to all my friends!

Hi!

Yes, now my blog will be updated only in english, because it can be understood by a lot of fellow travellers. If you are french, and if you don't understand a single word, take your dictionnary (yeah I know it's stupid because you won't understand the previous sentence...) or watch the pictures! Don't forget to register to the newsletter (right side on the main page).

Ok, so here are some news of my little trip in Hungary.

First I discovered the city of Budapest, where I was hosted by two guys: Szandor, & David. Even though I don't like cities, we can say that Buda is a nice one, with the Danube, the bridges, the Castle hill & the view from the Citadelle.

Then from the 4th to the 11th of august, one week long, from Gergelyiugornya to Tokaj, I was lucky to be a member of an amazing canoe trip. Or how to meet great foreign people in a foreign country & paddle together with joy & harmony? Thanks to CouchSurfing of course!

The project:

- 50 CouchSurfing members
- 16 countries
- 10 boats
- 144 kilometers
- 7 days

The results:
- 17569 smiles
- 1542 paprikas eaten
- 2733 mosquito bites
- 257 beers shared
- 50 survivors!

Enjoy the pictures below and see you soon for my next adventure (before the world trip): actually I took a flight yesterday with Ryanair from Paris to Stockholm, and I have decided to come back from Sweden through Denmark, Germany, Netherlands & Belgium... only hitchhiking... See you!

Budapest by night

With Andras & David, two hungarian CS ambassadors (thanks for hosting me, David!)

Hiking under the sun with Vladi

This is how we cook during a canoe trip, hmm...

Wonderful sunset in the countryside

Nutella time (very important)

Canoe trip organizers

Step by step along the muddy river banks...

We camped here and he weather was so stormy at night...
